Iran Says ‘No Quick Return’ to US Nuclear Talks Without Security Guarantees

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has dismissed the possibility of swiftly resuming nuclear talks with the United States, despite President Donald Trump’s recent remarks suggesting negotiations could restart as early as this week.

Speaking to CBS Evening News on Monday, Araghchi stressed that Iran needs firm guarantees that it won’t be attacked again before returning to the table.

“In order for us to decide to reengage, we would have to first ensure that America will not revert back to targeting us in a military attack during the negotiations,” he said.

The comments come just days after the US joined Israel in bombing several Iranian nuclear and military sites — including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan — during a 12-day conflict. While Tehran maintains its nuclear programme is peaceful, the US and Israel argue it could lead to weaponization.

Despite the tension, Araghchi said, “The doors of diplomacy will never slam shut,” signaling that Iran is open to dialogue—but only under new terms.

The G7 foreign ministers have also called for renewed diplomacy, but Tehran remains cautious, citing broken trust and unresolved hostilities.
