Iran Allows Passage Through Strait of Hormuz with Conditions Amid Rising Tensions
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh has stated that U.S. naval vessels are permitted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, provided they refrain from any hostile activities.
According to reports, Iranian authorities emphasized that the strategic waterway remains open, but safe passage depends on vessels maintaining communication with Iranian forces to ensure technical coordination and security compliance.
Khatibzadeh further noted that Iran will ensure the safety of ships through designated secure routes established by its military.
The statement comes at a time of heightened tensions following criticism from former U.S. President Donald Trump, who accused Iran of mishandling oil transit through the Strait and violating established agreements.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard issued separate guidelines urging ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz to strictly follow maritime safety protocols. They also advised vessels to take alternative routes where necessary to avoid potential threats, including naval mines.
According to a map released by Iranian authorities, ships entering from the Gulf of Oman are advised to pass north of Larak Island toward the Persian Gulf, while returning vessels should use the southern route.
Experts warn that ongoing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz could pose serious risks to global oil supply, as the passage remains one of the world’s most critical energy transit corridors.
