Intelligence Failure Admitted After Deadly Pahalgam Terror Strike in Kashmir

In the wake of Tuesday’s terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which claimed the lives of at least 26 individuals, the Indian government has acknowledged a critical intelligence failure. During an all-party meeting held on Thursday, officials from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Ministry of Home Affairs briefed political leaders about the incident, admitting that the attack had not been anticipated due to a lack of precedent in the area.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed the briefing, stating, “IB and Home Ministry officials briefed floor leaders about the incident.”
Opposition parties expressed solidarity with the government. “The opposition has given full support to the government to take any action,” said Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. However, the Congress party did not shy away from raising questions over the serious lapse in security.
The meeting aimed to present a unified political front in response to the tragedy and ensure accountability in the wake of the devastating attack. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities now reevaluating threat assessments across relatively calm areas like Pahalgam.
