India’s cautious response to Pakistan–Saudi strategic defence pact

India has officially responded to the landmark strategic mutual defence agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Speaking to the media, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that New Delhi has been closely following the development.

Jaiswal stated that the pact had long been under discussion and has now been formalized, strengthening defence cooperation between Riyadh and Islamabad. He emphasized that India would carefully study the implications of the pact on its national security as well as regional stability.

The spokesperson reassured that India’s security preparedness remains comprehensive and multidimensional, with the government fully committed to protecting its national interests.

On the other hand, the defence pact between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia marks a historic milestone. It commits both nations to joint defence, including the protection of the Two Holy Mosques. Any external attack on one will be considered an attack on both. The accord reflects deep bilateral ties, decades of military collaboration, and shared objectives of regional peace and global stability.

For India, however, the pact raises new strategic considerations in the region, compelling a cautious and measured response.
