India Bowled Out for 46, A Historic Collapse in Bangalore Test Against New Zealand

In what will go down as one of the most shocking collapses in the history of Indian cricket, the home team was bowled out for a mere 46 runs on Day 2 of the first Test against New Zealand at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. This collapse marks India’s lowest-ever score in Test matches on home soil, surpassing their previous low of 75 against the West Indies in 1987.

Opting to bat first, India’s batting order crumbled under pressure, with five top-order batsmen, including captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja, failing to make an impact and departing for ducks. Only Rishabh Pant, who fought hard for his 20 runs, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, with 13 runs, showed any resistance in what turned out to be a disastrous batting display.

New Zealand’s pace attack, led by Matt Henry’s stunning 5-wicket haul and William O’Rourke’s 4-wicket devastation, left the Indian batting lineup in tatters. Tim Southee took the final wicket to complete the rout, bowling India out in just 31.2 overs. The visitors, who now trail by just 42 runs, have taken complete control of the match.

This shocking collapse has raised serious questions about India’s batting frailties, especially on home turf, and how the team will bounce back from this historic embarrassment.
