Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, made it clear on Friday that Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), will not be granted a National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and will have to prove his innocence in court.

Speaking to the media, Iqbal highlighted that despite being in Adiala Jail, Imran Khan has been provided with facilities equivalent to those found in a five-star hotel. The minister drew comparisons between the current situation and the hardships faced by senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders during PTI’s tenure, stating that leaders like Rana Sanaullah, Khawaja Asif, and himself endured imprisonment with dignity and proved their innocence in court rather than seeking intervention from US senators.

Iqbal criticized the PTI for not adhering to the same principles they enforced during their time in power. He recalled how PTI leaders repeatedly demanded receipts from PML-N members but are now reluctant to provide their own in cases like the 190 million pounds reference.

He stressed that the PTI leadership must now face the consequences of their actions and that no NRO would be forthcoming. “PTI leaders should follow those principles which they set for the then opposition members (PML-N) during their tenure,” Iqbal stated firmly.
