Heatwave Alert Across Pakistan, Authorities Urge Public to Take Precautionary Measures

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a severe heatwave warning, predicting a sharp rise in temperatures from April 14 across most regions of the country. Daytime temperatures are expected to rise 6 to 8°C above average, with unusually warm nights forecast for southern areas like Karachi.
The rising temperatures could also accelerate snowmelt in northern areas, posing risks of increased river flows and potential glacial floods.
Citizens have been advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and wear light, loose-fitting clothing. Outdoor workers such as farmers and laborers are being urged to shift working hours to early mornings or late evenings to avoid peak heat hours.
Health experts recommend using oral rehydration salts (ORS) to replenish electrolytes, avoiding caffeine, and recognizing early signs of heat exhaustion. Public awareness campaigns are also encouraged to ensure community readiness during this extreme weather event.
