Hamas Divided Over Trump’s Gaza Plan, Internal Consultations Ongoing
Hamas is still reviewing a plan for Gaza proposed by US President Donald Trump and supported by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to AFP. A Hamas official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that consultations were ongoing and more time was required before a final position is announced.
Mohammad Nazzal, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, stated that while the plan contains “points of concern,” Hamas will soon make its official stance public. He also emphasized that the group is in contact with mediators as well as Arab and Islamic countries, showing seriousness about reaching understandings.
According to sources familiar with the negotiations, two differing opinions exist within Hamas: one in favor of unconditional approval—prioritizing a ceasefire guaranteed by the US and monitored by mediators—and another strongly opposing key clauses such as disarmament and forced expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza. The latter faction favors conditional approval, seeking clarifications that align with Hamas’s and other resistance groups’ demands.
