Government Sends Delegation to the U.S. for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s Repatriation

In a significant move, the Islamabad High Court was informed of the government’s decision to send a delegation to the United States to advocate for the release and repatriation of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui. During a recent hearing on Fawzia Siddiqui’s application, Additional Attorney General presented the government’s commitment to addressing Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s case, which has garnered widespread attention in Pakistan.

The planned delegation, approved by the Prime Minister, will include former and current parliamentarians, senators, military officers, doctors, and Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui herself. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has proposed a Prisoner Transfer Agreement with the U.S. and awaits an official response. Additionally, Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui has requested a medical check-up for her sister, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, highlighting concerns about her well-being. The family has also requested that Pakistani doctors be sent to monitor her health.

The Islamabad High Court, led by Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq, expressed the importance of swift action on the proposed prisoner transfer, to which the representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hinted that a response could come shortly. The court adjourned the hearing as developments proceed.
