Government and PTI Kickstart Negotiations, Hope for Resolution Amid Political Tensions
The federal government and PTI began the first round of negotiations to resolve ongoing political challenges. Speaker Ayaz Sadiq chaired the meeting in Committee Room 5 of the Parliament House, where seven government representatives and three PTI members participated.
The discussions revolved around PTI’s demands, including the release of political prisoners and the formation of a judicial commission. While PTI expressed openness to dialogue, they remained firm on their demands.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq termed the dialogue a positive step towards strengthening democracy and urged both sides to approach the talks with mutual cooperation. The meeting was adjourned to January 2, 2025, due to the unavailability of some PTI leaders.
The government’s negotiation committee, led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, included prominent figures such as Rana Sanaullah and Irfan Siddiqui. PTI’s team, represented by Asad Qaiser and Sahibzada Hamid Raza, emphasized the importance of addressing public concerns.
This negotiation process marks a significant opportunity for resolving political tensions and fostering economic and political stability in the country.
