The 4th edition of the Galiyat Mountain Trail Race, organized by Margalla Trail Runners (MTR), took place on July 20, 2025, marking another milestone in Pakistan’s growing adventure tourism and sports culture. Drawing nearly 230 participants from around the world, including elite athletes, diplomats, and trail enthusiasts, the event was a powerful showcase of human endurance set amidst the breathtaking Galiyat mountain range.

The event featured two categories: the grueling 60KM Ultra Race, which began at 5:00 AM from Thandiyani with a 2000m elevation gain, and the technical 20KM Trail Race, which started from Nathia Gali Club. Despite misty weather and challenging elevation, both races saw tight finishes and record-breaking performances.

In the 60KM Ultra, Wiqar Ahmed clinched victory and broke the previous course record by finishing in 6:39:58, just ahead of last year’s winner Muzammil Shahzad Awan. In the women’s category, Christina Wieser retained her title, showcasing exceptional strength.

In the 20KM race, Israr Muhammad led the men with 1:43:17, while Jessie Beham dominated the women’s category with a time of 2:43:00.

Supported by title sponsor CUST University, hydration partner Nestlé Professional, and brands like Nizam Watch House, Flow Events, and Optimize Digital, the event was a blend of athletic excellence and scenic celebration.

Race Director Javed Ali expressed pride in the turnout and thanked all volunteers and participants. The event also saw praise from multiple participants who acknowledged the improved arrangements, spirited volunteers, and the unifying impact of mountain sports.

With ITRA & UTMB certification, the race positions Pakistan on the international trail-running map and inspires a new wave of global adventure seekers to explore the country’s majestic peaks.
