Fourth Infant Dies as Displaced Families Struggle in the Cold, Gaza
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has claimed another innocent life as 20-day-old Jomaa al-Batran succumbed to hypothermia. Living in a makeshift tent with his family, Jomaa was found lifeless on Sunday morning, his head “cold as ice,” said his grieving father, Yehia al-Batran.
Jomaa’s twin brother, Ali, is currently in intensive care at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. The family, displaced by the war, struggles to survive with only four blankets for eight people. Their precarious living conditions expose them to harsh winter temperatures that frequently dip below 10°C.
At least three other infants have died from the cold in recent weeks, according to local health officials. Gaza’s health system, crippled by war and resource shortages, is unable to provide adequate care.
The ongoing Israeli offensive has killed over 45,000 Palestinians, displaced 90% of Gaza’s population, and devastated critical infrastructure. With limited aid delivery and worsening conditions, the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate.
