The Federal Ombudsman Secretariat for Protection Against Harassment (FOSPAH) has imposed a fine of Rs1 million on Hassan Ali Khan Laghari for sending obscene messages via WhatsApp. FOSPAH chairperson Fouzia Waqar issued the ruling, which has been backed by the President’s office, as they rejected Laghari’s appeal against the penalty.

The complaint, filed by FOSPAH spokesperson Syeda Gulbadan, alleged that Laghari had sent indecent messages, a violation of harassment laws protecting women in workplaces. Despite Laghari’s denial of the allegations, FOSPAH found him guilty, emphasizing the need for strong actions to protect women against harassment in digital spaces as well. This decision is a significant reminder of the strict measures that are in place to safeguard women and maintain workplace dignity.
