Former Punjab Prisons IG Shahid Saleem Baig Arrested in Connection with PTI Allegations
Shahid Saleem Baig, the former Inspector General of Punjab Prisons, has been apprehended by intelligence agencies on allegations of facilitating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. The arrest occurred at Baig’s government residence, IG House, amidst allegations of his involvement with key connections in the intelligence community.
Baig served as the IG of Punjab Prisons for five years before retiring, shortly before Imran Khan’s detention at Adiala Jail. The investigation into his arrest has led to a broader scrutiny involving other officials. The former deputy superintendent of Adiala Jail, Zafar, has been questioned, alongside Nazim Ali Shah, the office superintendent from Rawalpindi Jail DIG. Additionally, Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram’s orderly has also been detained, and officials from Adiala Jail, including the head ward and one of the warders, have been apprehended.
The arrest of Baig marks a significant development in the ongoing investigations concerning the facilitation of high-profile political figures. The authorities are continuing their probe to uncover further details related to the case.
