The federal government’s non-tax revenue witnessed a significant surge of Rs. 1,623 billion in the first half of the current fiscal year, reaching Rs. 3,602 billion compared to Rs. 1,979 billion in the same period last year.

A key contributor to this rise was the petroleum levy, which added Rs. 76.64 billion more than the previous year, bringing the total to Rs. 549 billion. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) played a major role as well, reporting a staggering profit of Rs. 2,500 billion, a sharp increase from Rs. 972 billion last year.

Other notable revenue streams included passport fees, which rose to Rs. 39.54 billion from Rs. 25.73 billion, and the gas development surcharge, which increased to Rs. 27.34 billion from just Rs. 4.5 billion last year.

The government also received Rs. 131.52 billion in interest payments from provinces and state-owned enterprises, although this was lower than last year’s Rs. 241 billion. Meanwhile, revenue from regulatory authorities, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), declined to Rs. 28.81 billion from Rs. 50.46 billion in the previous year.

Despite certain revenue streams seeing a dip, the overall surge in non-tax income is expected to ease fiscal pressure and provide additional funds for government expenditures.
