Federal Cabinet Delays Decision on PTI Ban and Article 6
The federal cabinet, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has decided to postpone the decision to ban Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the application of Article 6 against former President Arif Alvi, PTI founder Imran Khan, and former Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri.
The meeting, which took place to discuss a six-point agenda, concluded that further consultations with coalition partners, including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), were necessary before presenting the matter again in the cabinet.
The agenda included several other critical issues, such as visa-free entry for foreign investors, special courts under the SECP Act, and the appointment of the Chairman of the Evacuee Trust Property Board.
Notably, the cabinet also approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Pakistan and Denmark and proposed an increase in the number of members of the Privatization Commission.
Previously, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar announced that the government had decided to ban PTI and pursue Article 6 proceedings against key figures within the party. He emphasized that strong evidence supported the need for a ban, citing constitutional provisions that empower the government to take action against parties involved in anti-state activities.
