Freddie Trone, 42, was sentenced on Monday to 31 years to life in prison for orchestrating the murder of rapper PnB Rock, whose legal name was Rakim Allen. The sentencing took place in Los Angeles County Superior Court, with Judge Connie Quinones delivering the verdict following Trone’s conviction on charges of murder, robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery.

The case stems from a tragic incident in September 2022 when Trone’s then-17-year-old son entered Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles in South Los Angeles and fatally shot the rapper while robbing him of his jewelry. The prosecution argued that the teenager acted under the orders of his father, while Trone’s defense claimed he was merely an accessory after the fact and unaware his son was armed.

PnB Rock, a Philadelphia-based artist, was enjoying a meal with the mother of his 4-year-old daughter when he was attacked. The rapper, known for hits like “Selfish” and collaborations with artists such as Ed Sheeran and YFN Lucci, was just 30 years old at the time of his death.

The sentencing comes as Trone’s defense plans to appeal the ruling, contesting the extent of his involvement in the crime and citing issues with how the jury handled the evidence.
