Ex-Rockstar Games’ developer gives fans new hope about release date of GTA 6

As rumors about a potential delay in the release of Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6 circulate, fans have been left in a state of uncertainty. Recent reports suggest that Rockstar Games may have internally pushed back the game’s release to 2026.

The speculation began when Liam, a well-known GTA 5 modder, claimed that Rockstar has planned an early to mid-2026 release window based on information from multiple developers within the studio. He also mentioned that PC gamers would likely see the game around 12 to 18 months after its console launch.

However, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier cast doubt on these claims, stating on X that there was no concrete evidence of a delay. Schreier noted that while Rockstar employees hadn’t heard of any delay, the ambitious nature of the game could still lead to one. He even suggested that the executive team might have decided on a delay without informing the wider company.

Adding to the intrigue, former Rockstar North technical director Obbe Vermeij weighed in, suggesting that Rockstar Games or its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, might not yet be ready to confirm any delays. Vermeij indicated that decisions about delaying GTA 6 would likely not be finalized until around May 2025.

Vermeij also noted that despite the potential for a delay, GTA 6 would likely remain a significant market player for the next decade due to the lack of competition. “GTA 6 will sell for 10+ years and there is no competition to worry about,” Vermeij commented. “They are not going to release the game until they’re 100% happy with it.”
