DG ISPR Addresses Surge in Propaganda and Clarifies Military Stance

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry held a press conference to address the increasing spread of organized and false information against the Pakistan Armed Forces. Speaking from Rawalpindi, Lt. Gen. Sharif emphasized the necessity of the press conference to present the military’s stance on key issues and counter the rising tide of propaganda.

Lt. Gen. Sharif stated, “There has been a notable increase in the dissemination of false news and propaganda against the armed forces. It has become essential to address these matters and clarify our position.” He highlighted the significant rise in fake news targeting the military, necessitating regular press briefings to combat misinformation.

One of the key topics discussed was Operation Azm-i-Istehkam, which he clarified is not a military operation but a comprehensive counter-terrorism campaign achieved through national consensus. He condemned the politicization of serious issues, particularly Azm-i-Istehkam, and stressed that the operation aims to ensure national stability and security, rather than serve any political agenda.

Addressing the military’s ongoing efforts against terrorism, Lt. Gen. Sharif revealed that in 2024 alone, security forces conducted 22,409 operations, resulting in the martyrdom of 137 soldiers and the elimination of 31 high-profile terrorists. He noted that the military and law enforcement agencies are conducting an average of 112 operations daily to maintain security and counter terrorism.

He further elaborated on the recent National Apex Committee meeting held on June 22, where it was decided that a unified national counter-terrorism policy would be developed. This meeting included federal and provincial ministers, chief secretaries, and service chiefs, reflecting a broad-based consensus on the strategy against terrorism.

Lt. Gen. Sharif also highlighted the issue of unverified information about 50% of madrassas, stressing the need for accurate data to ensure effective oversight and management.
