Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar to Represent Pakistan at Iranian President’s Oath-Taking Ceremony
Due to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s ill health, Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, who also holds the position of Foreign Minister, will represent Pakistan at the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s new President, Masoud Pezeshkian, in Tehran. The event is set to take place today, and Dar is scheduled to lead the Pakistani delegation.
During his visit, Dar is expected to hold a significant meeting with the Secretary General of the Commonwealth. The discussion will focus on Pakistan’s diplomatic relations and regional cooperation, highlighting Pakistan’s continued commitment to fostering international partnerships.
The government has expressed confidence in Deputy Prime Minister Dar’s ability to effectively manage Pakistan’s international engagements during Prime Minister Sharif’s recovery. Dar’s extensive experience in both finance and foreign affairs positions him as a competent representative for these high-level discussions.
Earlier, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei formally endorsed Masoud Pezeshkian as Iran’s new president. Pezeshkian, a 69-year-old cardiac surgeon, emerged victorious over his conservative rival Saeed Jalili by more than three million votes in the second round of the presidential election held on July 5.
The endorsement ceremony saw Ayatollah Khamenei hand over the signed decree to Pezeshkian, acknowledging the election’s calm and sobriety despite challenging conditions. The new president is now prepared to assume his great responsibilities.
