Dengue Spirals Out of Control in KP with Over 97,000 Infected

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is facing a severe public health crisis as dengue cases continue to surge. According to official data from the provincial health department, 97,212 cases have been reported between January and August 2025.
The most affected districts include Nowshera with 9,726 cases, followed by Peshawar (9,455), Swat (8,951), and Shangla (7,895). Alarmingly, August alone saw 22,863 new infections — the highest monthly count this year.
Health experts cite stagnant floodwater, poor drainage systems, and increased mosquito breeding grounds as primary reasons behind the outbreak. Recent floods have exacerbated the situation, creating ideal conditions for dengue-carrying mosquitoes to thrive.
While the health department claims to be initiating fumigation and awareness campaigns, residents in the worst-hit areas report inadequate response and lack of medical facilities.
Medical experts urge the public to avoid water accumulation, wear protective clothing, and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms like high fever or body ache appear.
