Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Monday issued a stern warning against the misuse of religion for political purposes, highlighting attempts to incite violence under religious pretexts. Speaking at a press conference alongside Federal Minister for Development Ahsan Iqbal, Asif addressed the ongoing campaign against Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, clarifying that recent Supreme Court decisions had no connection to the CJP.

Asif emphasized that the state would take decisive action if such baseless campaigns continued. In a veiled reference to a religiopolitical party, he pointed out that certain elements were exploiting religion for their own political gains, urging the presentation of Islam’s true essence to the public instead of resorting to threats and violence in the name of religion.

“The state will not tolerate any turmoil based on religion and will act in accordance with the law and constitution,” he warned.

Minister Ahsan Iqbal echoed Asif’s sentiments, recalling the creation of a political party in 2018 to incite chaos. He cited religious scholars’ decrees stating that terrorism, sectarianism, and suicide attacks had no link with Islam. Iqbal called for unity and adherence to the constitution, warning against violence that tarnishes the nation’s image.

“We are being compelled to take action. We can’t keep our eyes closed anymore. The culprits of May 9 have yet to be brought to justice. The constitution must be respected, not denigrated,” Iqbal concluded.

Asif and Iqbal’s statements reflect the government’s stance on maintaining political and religious stability while upholding the rule of law and constitution.
