Curfew Imposed in Upper South Waziristan

The Home Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has imposed a curfew in Upper South Waziristan, marking the first direct enforcement action following a recent directive by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

This move follows the Chief Minister’s decision to withdraw curfew and Section 144 enforcement powers from district administrations across the province. From now on, such decisions will require prior approval from the provincial government, effectively centralizing authority within the Home Department.

While no official reason has yet been given for the curfew, sources suggest heightened security concerns and potential threats in the area prompted the decision.

This unprecedented bypassing of the district administration has raised questions about governance autonomy at the local level. Residents have expressed concern over the lack of communication and have called for transparency regarding the reason and duration of the curfew.
