Concept Loop Wins First Prize at COP29 Green Tech Hub for Tackling Plastic Waste
At the COP29 Green Tech Hub competition, Concept Loop, a Pakistan-based startup, emerged as the first-prize winner for its groundbreaking solution to plastic waste. Held in Baku in November, COP29 brought together world leaders, climate innovators, and startups aiming to drive sustainability. The competition recognized Concept Loop for its innovative approach to addressing one of the planet’s most pressing environmental concerns.
The driving force behind Concept Loop is Syed Ali Naqi, an entrepreneur with a passionate commitment to sustainability. His brainchild, EcoGrete™️, is a revolutionary building material made by transforming low-value plastics into aggregate, which can then be integrated into concrete products such as pavers, tiles, and blocks. This innovation not only reduces plastic waste but also lowers carbon emissions in the construction industry.
In 2024 alone, Concept Loop offset over seven hundred thousand kilograms of plastic waste, equivalent to more than five hundred million single-use wrappers. This waste was transformed into sustainable products that are both low-carbon and durable, proving that environmental responsibility can be practically applied.
The startup’s impact extends beyond innovation—it has become a leader in the circular economy, collaborating with industry giants such as Shell, Nestlé, and PepsiCo. Through these partnerships, Concept Loop has helped companies reduce their carbon emissions by up to eighty-four percent.
Naqi’s achievement at COP29 is a milestone for Concept Loop, but he remains focused on expanding the company’s reach. “This is about proving that impactful change is possible when we challenge the status quo,” said Naqi.
With its vision and bold ideas, Concept Loop is showing that Pakistan is on the global map for tackling climate challenges, offering hope for a sustainable future.
