China has marked a significant milestone by launching its first group of internet satellites into space, aiming to revolutionize broadband internet services across the Asian continent. The launch took place at 2:42 PM local time from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in Shanxi Province.

A total of 18 satellites were sent into orbit aboard the Long March 6A rocket, developed by the Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology. This ambitious project, costing approximately $943 million, is part of China’s broader initiative to improve global internet access through the deployment of a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) communication megaconstellation.

According to China Great Wall Industry Corporation, the launch service provider, these satellites are designed to offer users low-latency, high-speed, and highly reliable satellite broadband internet services. This mission marks the 530th flight of the Long March carrier rocket series, further solidifying China’s presence in the space technology sector.

The successful launch of this satellite group is expected to significantly enhance internet connectivity across Asia, providing faster and more reliable internet services to underserved regions. As China continues to advance its space capabilities, this mission represents a major step forward in the global competition for satellite-based internet services.
