China conducted its largest military exercises near Taiwan on Monday, deploying a record-breaking 125 military aircraft, including warplanes, helicopters, and drones. According to Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense, 90 of these aircraft entered Taiwan’s air defense identification zone, marking a significant escalation in regional tensions.

The large-scale drills involved naval forces, air forces, and missile corps, simulating a blockade of key Taiwanese ports and surrounding islands. China’s Defense Ministry described the drills as a warning against any moves toward Taiwanese independence, following comments made by Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te on National Day, where he rejected China’s claims over the island.

Taiwan’s government has condemned these actions, calling for China to cease its provocations and respect regional peace and stability. Taiwan’s military and leadership emphasized their commitment to defending the island from threats posed by China’s military.

China’s Liaoning aircraft carrier was involved in the drills, with J-15 fighter jets taking off from the carrier’s deck. While the exact location of the ships remains unclear, the exercises underline China’s resolve to challenge any moves toward Taiwanese independence.

Chinese officials have warned that Taiwan’s bid for sovereignty is incompatible with peace in the Taiwan Strait, vowing to respond firmly to any provocations.

The drills come just days after Taiwan’s National Day celebrations, where President Lai reaffirmed the island’s resolve to resist annexation by China. As tensions continue to rise, the international community watches closely for further developments in the region.
