Child Marriage Restraint Bill 2025 Challenged in Federal Shariat Court

A petition has been filed in the Federal Shariat Court (FSC) challenging the recently passed Child Marriage Restraint Bill 2025, which restricts marriage under the age of 18. The petition, filed by citizen Shehzada Adnan through his counsel Advocate Mudassir Chaudhary, claims the law is in direct contradiction with Islamic teachings.
The petitioner contends that both the age restriction for marriage and the punishment—imprisonment for contracting or facilitating underage marriages—violate the principles of the Quran and Sunnah. The petition references specific Quranic verses to support the argument.
The plea further argues that the law is unconstitutional and that its enforcement could lead to criminalizing actions that are permissible under Islamic law. The petitioner urged the court to annul the law and prevent the state from filing cases under its provisions.
The Federal Shariat Court is expected to hear the petition soon, a case that may stir legal, social, and religious debate across the country.
