The Pearl is a novella written by John Steinbeck. This is a best story that revolves around a poor pearl diver ‘Kino’. One day, he finds a valuable pearl and hopes that it will make his life better, but the pearl brings greed, violence, and tragedy. Despite Juana’s repeated warnings and pleas to throw away the pearl, Kino’s obsession and greed ultimately lead to their downfall, resulting in the tragic loss of their son, Coyotito. Through Kino’s journey, Steinbeck masterfully reveals the complexities of human nature, the consequences of greed, and the destructive power of wealth.

Through reading the pages of The Pearl, I learned the importance of being content with what I already have and not letting greed and desire cloud my judgment. For instance, Kino’s obsession with the pearl ultimately leads to his downfall, teaching me to prioritize relationships and well-being over material wealth. I believe it can be a valuable read for anyone who wants to explore the human behavior.
