Biden Calls for Trump to Be ‘Politically Locked Up,’ Warns Democracy is at Stake

In a fiery campaign speech in New Hampshire, President Joe Biden called for Republican candidate Donald Trump to be “politically locked up,” characterizing him as a dangerous threat to American democracy. Speaking to Democrats ahead of the crucial November 5 election, Biden emphasized the urgency of defeating Trump, warning that his presidency would disregard the foundational safeguards of the U.S. Constitution.

“We got to lock him up […] politically lock him up. Lock him out. That’s what we have to do,” Biden declared, encouraging Democrats to rally support for Vice President Kamala Harris, who will face Trump at the ballot box.

The phrase echoes Trump’s own rallies during his 2016 presidential bid, where chants of “lock her up” were often directed at Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, a slogan Trump did little to discourage. Today, Trump’s opponents sometimes chant “lock him up” at rallies for Harris, but she quickly redirects, asserting that the Justice Department will handle Trump’s legal issues.

Trump, who has been convicted on 34 felony counts related to hush money payments, is also facing charges for attempting to overturn the 2020 election results.
