Massive financial irregularities have been uncovered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s polio campaign, according to the 2022-23 audit report. The report reveals that an extra Rs. 2.2 million was spent by extending the campaign from 4 to 5 days.

Additionally, Rs. 151.2 million of unused polio funds returned to the Home Department have no record. The audit also flagged suspicious double payments of Rs. 4.1 million for campaign security.

Despite having official vehicles, Rs. 17 million were spent on private rentals, while failure to deduct taxes caused a loss of Rs. 3 million to the national exchequer. Moreover, Rs. 9.6 million were unnecessarily withheld due to delayed payments, and Hangu police did not receive their dues for 11 months.

The report states that the Home Department received over Rs. 500 million between 2020-21 and 2021-22, meant for security of polio teams via commissioners and DPOs.
