Attempt to Hijack Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Resources? APC Slams Controversial Mines & Minerals Bill
In a heated All Parties Conference (APC) held in Peshawar, political leaders strongly rejected the proposed Mines and Minerals Bill in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, calling it a direct attack on provincial rights and a violation of the 18th Constitutional Amendment.
ANP’s senior leader, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, accused the federal government of conspiring to seize control over the province’s natural resources. He also criticized the involvement of foreign consultants in drafting the bill, labeling it a “dangerous trend.”
He expressed deep concern over the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), questioning how ordinary citizens could oppose a plan backed by both the Prime Minister and the Army Chief.
PTI and other political parties also condemned the bill, with several members stating it undermines democracy and the constitutional framework.
Mian Iftikhar further warned the judiciary not to overstep their jurisdiction by attempting to reinterpret the constitution, and questioned the delay in announcing the NFC Award, emphasizing that without fair resource distribution, trust in the federation cannot be maintained.
