Army Chief Assures Business Community of Swift Action on Economic Concerns

During a high-profile meeting with over 100 prominent businessmen in Karachi, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir addressed the pressing economic challenges facing Pakistan. He reassured the business community that their concerns would be prioritized, emphasizing the military’s commitment to stabilizing and growing Pakistan’s economy.

General Munir reiterated the importance of collective efforts in overcoming despair and pessimism, reminding everyone that despair is a sin. “Never give up hope for the prosperity of Pakistan,” he stated. He also highlighted the achievements in controlling smuggling on Pakistan’s western border, which had positively impacted the economy.

The Army Chief lauded the role of international allies, including China, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, for their continued support. He shared exciting news that major global companies, such as Google and Starlink, were investing in Pakistan, signalling a promising future for the nation.

A key takeaway from the meeting was General Munir’s commitment to addressing electricity price hikes, promising a reduction by next month, and his plan to bring down interest rates to single digits by next year. He also called on Pakistani businessmen with foreign investments to repatriate funds and invest in the local economy, proposing an amnesty scheme to facilitate this process.

The COAS emphasized the importance of partnerships between the government, the private sector, and international investors, and urged the business community to collaborate with the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) to promote sustainable growth.

In conclusion, General Munir affirmed the military’s deep commitment to Karachi, highlighting its importance in the nation’s economic landscape, and invited the business community to play a pivotal role in driving Pakistan’s economic progress.
