Arab-Islamic Summit Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza and End to Arms Supplies to Israel
The recent Arab-Islamic summit held in Riyadh brought together leaders from across the Arab and Islamic world to address the escalating violence in Gaza and Lebanon. In a strongly worded communique, the summit called upon the UN Security Council to pass a binding resolution enforcing an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, allowing for critical humanitarian aid to reach those in need.
The summit urged countries to cease arms supplies to Israel, backing an initiative led by Türkiye and supported by over 50 countries, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Arab League. The communique commended diplomatic efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States in their attempts to negotiate a swift and lasting peace.
Summit leaders reaffirmed Palestinian sovereignty over occupied East Jerusalem, condemning any Israeli actions to alter its status. They emphasized the importance of protecting the Islamic and Christian sites in the city, referring to Jerusalem as a “red line” for Arab and Islamic nations.
In addition to the Gaza conflict, the summit expressed concern over the recent escalation of violence in Lebanon and the ongoing violation of sovereignty in Iraq, Syria, and Iran. The communique condemned Israel’s collective punishment tactics in Gaza and called for an international investigation into alleged war crimes committed against civilians.
