Apple Unveils iOS 18 with New Features and Compatibility Updates for iPhones

Apple has officially released iOS 18, marking the latest major update for its iPhone lineup. The update is now available for eligible iPhones and will come pre-installed on the new iPhone 16 models set to release on September 20.

While iOS 18 introduces several new features, it will not be compatible with all older iPhone models. Specifically, devices such as the iPhone 8 and iPhone X will not support this latest update, following Apple’s trend of gradually phasing out support for older models. Those with eligible devices will be able to enjoy the new features without needing to purchase a new phone.

Key highlights of iOS 18 include:

  • Apple Intelligence Features: Advanced features will be available on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the upcoming iPhone 16 models. These features will start rolling out in October in the US, with broader language support coming in December and throughout next year.
  • Passwords App: A new app to securely store passwords and credentials with enhanced access control.
  • Improved Messages: The iMessage app now supports text formatting options such as bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough, along with improved compatibility with Android via RCS.
  • Revamped Photos Library: A redesigned Photos app allows users to create and pin custom collections and organize images more intuitively.
  • Personalized Home Screen: New customization options for app layouts, icon rearrangement, and color tints.

Despite these advancements, the most cutting-edge “Apple Intelligence” features will only be available on newer models at launch, with a broader rollout expected throughout the coming months. Older iPhone users will still enjoy many benefits of iOS 18, but without some of the latest high-tech additions.
