Akhtar Mengal Quits National Assembly in Protest Against Government’s Neglect of Balochistan
Sardar Akhtar Mengal, a prominent political figure and the head of the Balochistan National Party (BNP), has resigned from the National Assembly, voicing his deep frustration and disillusionment with the government’s continued neglect of Balochistan’s pressing issues.
Mengal submitted his resignation to the assembly secretary in the absence of the National Assembly speaker, signaling his departure from the legislative body. Addressing the media outside Parliament House alongside Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Mengal expressed his despair over the government’s indifference towards the ongoing crises in Balochistan.
Mengal stated that despite his efforts to raise the issues of Balochistan in the assembly, his concerns were consistently ignored. He lamented the lack of interest from fellow parliamentarians and criticized the government’s failure to address the bloodshed in the province.
“A parliamentarian himself said that Balochistan is slipping out of our hands,” Mengal revealed, adding that in his view, “Balochistan is not getting out of your hands, but it has already gotten out.”
Mengal also expressed frustration that discussions about Balochistan are often “blacked out” when raised in the assembly. He challenged his critics to listen to his words with patience and, if found wrong, to punish him accordingly. Mengal’s emotional resignation speech highlighted his deep sense of betrayal and loss of faith in the state’s institutions.
