Additional Changes Planned in 27th Constitutional Amendment; Amendment to Article 6 Expected
The government has decided to introduce additional changes to the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill.
Sources say the new amendments will be presented in the National Assembly, with separate lists for government and opposition proposals.
Once approved by the Assembly, the bill will be sent back to the Senate.
A key change is expected in Article 6(2A), related to acts of treason — ensuring that no court, including the proposed Federal Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court, or any High Court, can endorse such actions.
Reports suggest that the title “Federal Constitutional Court” will be added alongside the Supreme Court.
Government sources have also confirmed that 11 opposition amendments are part of the agenda.
The Senate session has been rescheduled and will now take place today at 5 PM, with voting expected.
Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar met Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to discuss the amendments, joined by Naveed Qamar, Sherry Rehman, Murtaza Wahab, and the Attorney General.
Speaking to media, the Law Minister said that discussions are underway on “two to three good suggestions” and voting will take place today.
He added that any ambiguities will be debated in the National Assembly before approval.
