NEPRA Receives Request to Increase Electricity Tariff by Rs. 2.11 per Unit for June
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for a significant increase in electricity tariffs. The request seeks to raise electricity prices by Rs. 2.11 per unit as part of June’s fuel price adjustment.
If NEPRA approves this request, it could impose an additional financial burden of up to Rs. 30 billion on consumers. This move comes amid ongoing concerns over rising energy costs in Pakistan. The decision will be made following a scheduled hearing by NEPRA, which will assess the merits of the CPPA’s request. Previously, Karachi’s electricity distribution company, K-Electric, had also sought to increase electricity rates. K-Electric requested an increase of Rs. 5.45 per unit, including Rs. 2.53 for May and Rs. 2.92 for June’s fuel price adjustment. NEPRA is set to review this request on July 30.
