In a bold move to protect public health and ensure halal food standards, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a state-of-the-art testing laboratory to detect substandard or fraudulent meat — especially donkey meat being falsely sold as halal beef.

According to the KP Food Safety and Halal Food Authority, the newly established lab is equipped with highly advanced equipment including FTIR, HPLC, and UHPLC machines that can detect the origin and quality of meat within seconds.

The facility will analyze various food samples including meat, milk, water, spices, and beverages. Most importantly, it can differentiate between donkey, cow, and buffalo meat, ensuring strict compliance with halal standards.

Officials say the lab represents a scientific breakthrough in the region, allowing real-time testing and immediate identification of potentially harmful or non-halal food items. The lab will serve as a powerful deterrent against illegal meat sellers and contribute significantly to improving food safety in the province.
