Security Experts Warn Against Sharing Personal Info with AI Chatbots

Security experts are sounding the alarm on the potential dangers of sharing personal information with AI-powered chatbots. While chatbots like ChatGPT are designed to seem friendly and helpful, they can pose serious privacy risks if users become too comfortable sharing sensitive details.

Akhil Mittal, a cybersecurity expert, explained that small bits of everyday information like travel plans, work projects, or health updates might seem harmless but can gradually create a comprehensive picture of someone’s life. “We’re getting so comfortable talking to AI tools that we often forget something important,” he said. “We’re still sharing data, and that data helps these systems learn more about us.”

Experts emphasize that even though people know not to share passwords or credit card numbers, the real concern lies in the accumulation of smaller, seemingly insignificant details. These could be exploited by hackers or used by malicious actors to gain access to personal accounts or even steal identities.

Furthermore, while chatbots may not intentionally misuse this information, data breaches or hacks could expose private conversations to malicious individuals. Users are advised to treat their chatbot conversations with the same caution as social media and avoid sharing any personal, financial, or confidential workplace information.
