The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday announced the formation of a three-member committee to monitor and address corruption and governance issues in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This comes after PTI regained control of the provincial government following the February 2024 general elections.

Speaking to Geo News, PTI lawmaker and KP Information Advisor Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif stated that the committee was formed on the directive of PTI founder Imran Khan. The committee’s mandate is to investigate allegations of corruption against provincial ministers and administrative secretaries. Action will be taken against any official if the allegations are substantiated.

The formation of the committee was prompted by complaints from Provincial Minister Shakeel Khan, who reported embezzlement in various KP departments during a recent meeting with Imran Khan in jail.

The committee members, as nominated by Khan, include former KP Governor Shah Farman, former advisor to the prime minister on accountability Musaddiq Abbasi, and former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association Qazi Anwar. Their task will be to evaluate the provincial government’s performance and report their findings to the incarcerated PTI founder.

In a separate statement, Saif criticized federal ministers for their negative remarks about the KP government, suggesting that such criticisms were attempts to obscure the federal government’s shortcomings. He emphasized PTI’s accomplishments in KP over the past 11 years and demanded accountability from federal ministers regarding overpriced agreements with independent power plants (IPPs).

“The fake government is robbing people through the expensive agreements with the IPPs. Loadshedding and [inflated] electricity bills have made the people’s life a hell,” Saif stated, rebuking the federal administration.

The PTI’s move to establish this committee underscores its commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability within its ranks while addressing the concerns of its constituents.
