An Indian Air Force air show turned tragic in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, when five people died due to extreme heat and overcrowding. According to state Health Minister Subramanian, the intense heat, combined with the congested environment, led to over 100 people becoming unwell, with 93 requiring immediate medical attention.

The air show, held at Marina Beach, saw a crowd of over 1.5 million people gather, far exceeding the venue’s capacity. Investigations revealed that there was inadequate provision of water and shade, and many attendees collapsed after the event ended.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has pointed fingers at the state government, criticizing its failure to manage such a large event. BJP leaders expressed outrage, stating that public safety should not be compromised and that the state should have avoided holding such a massive event if it was not equipped to handle it.

The Tamil Nadu government has launched an inquiry into the incident and has assured that those responsible for the mishap will be held accountable.
