33 Terrorists Arrested in Punjab, Including Al-Qaeda Leader in Lahore
The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab has successfully arrested 33 terrorists affiliated with banned organizations in a series of covert operations conducted across various cities, including Lahore. Among those apprehended is a key leader of the outlawed Al-Qaeda group.
The CTD revealed that six terrorists were arrested in Lahore, with key individuals identified as Ayatullah, Faisal, Bakht Jamal, and Hamza. The operations extended to other cities like Nankana Sahib, Bahawalpur, and Sheikhupura. During the raids, authorities recovered a significant cache of explosive materials, hand grenades, weapons, equipment used for making suicide vests, and a large amount of cash.
According to the CTD, the terrorists were planning attacks on sensitive installations across the province. Following their arrests, investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of their plans and identify any additional accomplices.
The arrests come amidst increased efforts by the armed forces and security agencies to thwart terrorist activities. Earlier this week, Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir reiterated the resolve of Pakistan’s military to crush the country’s enemies, stating that the nation remains united against terrorism.
