At least 30 passengers were injured after a train derailed on the Kerman–Zarand railway line in southern Iran early Friday morning. The derailment prompted an immediate emergency response, ensuring all passengers were safely evacuated, according to officials.

Babak Mahmoudi, head of the Red Crescent Society’s Relief and Rescue Organization, confirmed the incident to Mehr News Agency, stating that 30 individuals suffered injuries.

Iran’s national railway authority, speaking to Tasnim News Agency, praised the quick response of railway technicians and emergency services, which prevented further casualties.

Though fatal train crashes are relatively rare in Iran, the country has faced repeated derailments and technical issues. A 2022 derailment near Tabas killed 21 people, and in 2016, a devastating train collision in northern Iran claimed 44 lives.

Authorities said Friday’s accident could have been far worse if not for the fast action taken by rescue and engineering teams. The cause of the derailment is currently under investigation.
