Wasim Akram Harassed by Fan in Australia, Security Measures Enhanced
Pakistani cricket legend Wasim Akram was subjected to harassment by a fan during the third day of the India-Australia Test match at the Optus Stadium.
The incident occurred when Akram, who is in Australia for commentary duties with Star Sports, was attempting to catch a cab after the match. A fan, who had earlier approached him for an autograph, hurled abusive remarks at the cricket icon.
Security personnel acted swiftly to de-escalate the situation and escorted the fan away. While the motive behind the harassment remains unclear, reports confirm that the abuse was neither racially motivated nor influenced by intoxication.
In response, Cricket Australia assured Akram of enhanced security measures, including increased security presence around commentators and private transportation options for their safety.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of commentators in high-profile matches like the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Meanwhile, on the field, India dominated the proceedings by taking a significant lead over Australia.
