U.S. Embassy Delegation Visits Adiala Jail for Consular Meeting with American Citizens
In a diplomatic move aimed at ensuring the rights and welfare of U.S. citizens abroad, a delegation from the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad recently visited Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to meet with three American citizens detained under Pakistan’s Foreign Act. The three-member delegation, comprising U.S. Embassy officials Irfan John, Mike Murphy, and Raheel Javed, was granted consular access to detainees Abid Malik, Siddiqa Saeed, and Alex Pulido.
The meeting, held in the office of the Additional Superintendent of Adiala Jail, lasted about an hour. According to sources, the visit underscored the embassy’s commitment to safeguarding the legal rights and well-being of U.S. citizens in custody, reflecting the broader diplomatic obligations the United States maintains for its citizens internationally.
The circumstances leading to the arrests of Malik, Saeed, and Pulido remain a topic of concern, and the U.S. Embassy is actively monitoring the case. Diplomatic efforts are expected to continue as authorities seek to ensure fair treatment for the detainees under Pakistani law.
