Sri Lanka’s spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has been handed a one-year suspension from all forms of cricket after admitting to breaching the ICC’s anti-corruption code. The International Cricket Council (ICC) charged Jayawickrama in August for failing to report a match-fixing approach and for obstructing an investigation. The charges relate to incidents from the 2021 Lanka Premier League.

Jayawickrama, 26, was approached to fix international matches and was also asked to recruit another player to fix matches in the Lanka Premier League. Upon admitting his actions, he accepted a sanction of one-year ineligibility, with the last six months of the ban suspended, provided no further violations occur during this period.

Jayawickrama made an impressive international debut in 2021, taking 11 wickets in his first test match against Bangladesh. However, his promising career has been overshadowed by this controversy, as he hasn’t represented Sri Lanka since June 2022.
