Sindh Government Announces Biopic on Abdul Sattar Edhi to Preserve Legacy of Humanity
In a landmark move, the Sindh government has announced plans to produce a biopic on the life and services of Abdul Sattar Edhi, the iconic philanthropist who founded the Edhi Foundation and devoted his life to humanitarian causes.
The announcement was made by Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon during the closing ceremony of a film festival in Karachi. The film will be made in collaboration with renowned filmmaker Satish Anand.
Speaking at the event, Memon highlighted the need to use cinema as a tool for national narrative building, noting that countries like India actively use films to influence public perception and promote cultural pride. “Pakistan is rich in real heroes and inspirational stories,” he said, “and Edhi Sahib’s story is the perfect place to begin.”
He stressed that Abdul Sattar Edhi’s work is known to many today, but future generations might forget if it isn’t documented. “Cinema has the power to preserve legacies. It’s our duty to ensure the youth understand the values and service Edhi represented.”
While the project has been officially announced, production details including cast, timeline, and release date remain undisclosed.
Abdul Sattar Edhi passed away in July 2016 at age 88. His legacy lives on through the Edhi Foundation, which continues to run Pakistan’s largest welfare network, including ambulances, orphanages, shelter homes, and more.
