The threat of polio continues to loom over Pakistan as the total number of cases in 2024 has risen to 55. According to official reports, three new cases were reported on Sunday, one each in Dera Ismail Khan (KP), Zhob, and Jaffarabad (Balochistan).

Dera Ismail Khan has now reported a total of six cases this year, while Zhob stands at three, and Jaffarabad at two. Across provinces, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded 14 cases, Balochistan 26, Sindh 13, and Punjab and Islamabad have each reported one case.

The increase highlights an urgent need for enhanced vaccination efforts and awareness campaigns, especially in the high-risk areas of KP and Balochistan. Health authorities have urged parents to vaccinate their children to curb the spread of this debilitating disease.

The government and international health organizations continue to work towards the eradication of polio, but the persistent surge in cases calls for greater community involvement and stringent action.
