Elon Musk Challenges the Importance of College Degrees, Says Skilled Trades Hold More Value
In a recent statement that has sparked widespread debate, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk questioned the necessity of traditional college education. Sharing a video from a Republican event on X, Musk declared that college is often overvalued, and many students accumulate debt without acquiring practical skills.
Musk, who holds degrees in physics and economics, stressed that success isn’t tied to a four-year degree. Instead, he advocates for a focus on skilled trades such as electricians, plumbers, and carpenters. According to Musk, these professions are not only more vital but also lead to greater career advancement compared to fields like political science.
“I think college is overrated,” Musk said. “Many people spend four years accumulating debt, yet lack the skills that are actually useful later on. I have great respect for people who work with their hands. We need more electricians, plumbers, and carpenters, and I believe these are more important than political science.”
The billionaire’s remarks have sparked discussion across social media, with many agreeing with his stance on the overemphasis placed on college degrees.
